Relaxing in Golfito

3.12.08 –  Now that the rush to reach Puntarenas was no longer there, we could relax. We spent the day around the marina, mingling with other yachties, swapping cruising stories and utilizing the bar honour system. One would take a drink, make a sign on the board near his boat’s name and pay later.  Some of the guys were doing the rounds: fridge, board and seat quite a few times.

As you can see, there are some friendly dogs in the marina, and Yael, who loves animals was happy to have them them keep her company.

In the afternoon the rain came again. The quantity of water coming down here is incredible!

4.12.08 – Today we took a five hours tour to the forest, walked to a waterfall and did what they call here “Canopy” which is fast sliding in a harness on a cable through the jungle.

Avner and Yael did a horseback ride, which I declined due to the impending rain. Back at the marina the rain came down with vengeance, lightning and thunder too close for comfort.

5.12.08 – Many of the cruisers were waiting the arrival of a Dockwise ship, a yacht transport company, that will take their boats to destinations up north. Jens, who initially intended to sail “There You Are”, his 28 foot boat, to British Columbia, decided to use this service. He asked me to join him as crew. At 0800 we were ready, circling around the ship until we were called to go in. In preparation for loading of the yachts, the ship pumps in water and goes lower in the water.  When the boats enter her, divers and mariners secure them to stands on the now sumerged deck. The water is then pumped out and the ship is ready to sail. Here are some pictures of the opreation.

In the afternoon we took up a mooring  of the “Land and Sea” marina. Tim came aboard to get familiar with the boat since he will take care of her until I come back.

We will then sail Costa Rica in February, Panama in March and then the Galapagos and beyond.

Until then – Happy holidays to all and best wishes from Miki on (and off) “Two Oceans”.
