Capetown – end of 2009

25.12.09 – Friday – The boat – Amel Super Maramu – a 53 foot monohull made in France. The owner is Ronnie Shapiro, known to all as Zulu due to his South African origin. Zulu bought the boat in Singapore and is aiming to circumnavigate. He invited me to sail with him and Miri, his wife, from Capetown to Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, to get there in time for the Carnival. With “Two Oceans” laid up in Raiatea for the hurricane season I was happy to join.

I flew nine hours from Israel to Johannesburg, South Africa and then another two hours to Capetown, landing at 8pm. Zulu picked me up at the airport and we drove directly to the Royal Cape Yacht Club where “Windmiller” is moored. First impressions: A big boat! She’s got only one hull but has two masts. I’ll have to get used to a lot of things that are different from what I am used to. The interior is all wood veneer, very pretty, a far cry from the “Plastic fantastic” that cats are.

There are a few maintenance jobs to accomplish and the holidays are making things difficult. We can only hope to set sail next year… That’s, of course is also next week!

Until then – Happy Holidays and a HAPPY  NEW YEAR!
